Fix an invitation link that says it's invalid

What to do when the link in your welcome email says it's invalid or has expired.

In this article2 sections

You tap Click here in your welcome email from your law firm , or the link in their invitation text, and the sign-in page says "This invitation link is not valid. Please ask for a new invitation."

Why it happens

Your invitation linkInvitation link The link in the email you get when you're added to a case; it opens the portal and sends you a sign-in code. doesn't expire, however long ago it was sent. It stops working only when:

  • It was cut or changed on the way, for example by your email app, or when it was copied into a browser.
  • Your email address or phone number has changed since your law firm invited you, so the link points to details your account no longer uses.

If the page says instead "We sent you a code moments ago. Check your messages for it.", the link worked: you opened it twice within a minute. Check your email or texts for the code. If it says there have been too many incorrect codes, see Fix a sign-in code that doesn't work.

How to fix it

  1. On the same page, type the email address or mobile number you sign in with, and choose Continue. If you've never signed in, use the one your law firm has for you: any other starts a new, empty account without your case.
  2. Enter the code sent to you and choose Verify & continue. You're taken to your case.
  3. If that doesn't work, ask your law firm to send your invitation again. The new link uses the details they have for you now.
