Post a case update
Share news on a case's feed, from scratch or a feed template, with files, mentions and a choice of who can see it.
In this article6 sections
Post an update to tell the people on a case what's happening. They're notified, and can reply in the portal or straight from the email.
Start your update
On the case, open Feed and type in Write something....
To start from one of your firm's templatesTemplate A reusable feed post, form, e-sign, note or task kept in the Library and copied onto cases., choose Template, pick one and choose Done. It replaces anything you've typed, so pick it first. To have a draft written for you, see Draft an update or reply with AI.
Mention and attach
To address someone, type @ and pick their name. To add documents, photos, audio or video, choose Attach File.
Choose who can see it
The box beside Post reads Everybody can see. To limit the update, open it and tick only the roles who should see it, such as Staff. Staff always see every update.
Post it
Choose Post.
What happens next
The people the update is for are notified in the portal, and by email, or by text if they have only a phone number. That's everyone on the case, or only the roles you chose, or, if you mentioned anyone, only them. You aren't notified of your own update.
Each reader sees the update in their own language, translated from the language on your profile, and can switch to your original words. See Understand how updates and comments are translated.
Replies to the email are added to the update as comments.
If something goes wrong
- "Feed message cannot be empty!" Type a message. Files can't be posted on their own.
- "Your proposed upload exceeds the maximum allowed size" The file is larger than your role allows. Ask an Admin for the limit.
- Post is greyed out. The case is closed; see Understand the case page.
Your firm may have changed what each role can do on a case. If an option described here is missing, ask an Admin of your hub.
