Fix errors when adding a user
What "User with username already exist" and "is invalid" mean when adding someone, and how to get past them.
In this article2 sections
You choose Save in Add User, and the person isn't added. A message such as "User with username already exist." or "Email is invalid. Example: username@example.com." shows, or Save stays greyed out.
Why it happens
- "User with username already exist." Someone in your hubHub Your law firm's own client portal, with its branding, its team and all of its cases in one place. already has that email address or phone number, and they're active. Capitals don't make an address different.
- "This person is already in the hub but disabled. An Admin or a Manager can turn them back on from the Disabled tab in Users." They're in your hub, but disabled.
- "Email is invalid. Example: username@example.com." or "Phone is invalid. Example: +12035556677" What you typed can't be read as an email address or a phone number. A number typed without its country code is read as a US number.
- "Texts can only go to US and Canadian numbers. Use one of those, or an email address." The phone number is from another country.
- Save stays greyed out. A field isn't filled in correctly yet: an email address that isn't complete, a phone number that doesn't fit its country ("Enter a valid phone number."), or a name with a character names can't have ("First name can only contain letters, digits, spaces, dashes, apostrophes and periods."). Accented letters count as letters.
How to fix it
- Already exists: search Users for the address or number. They're already in your hub, so add them to their case instead of adding them again.
- Disabled: an Admin or a Manager turns them back on from the Disabled tab. See Disable or re-enable a user.
- Invalid: check the address for typos and spaces. For a phone number, switch to Phone, pick the United States or Canada, then type the number without its country code.
- Another country: add them by email address instead.
- Greyed out: finish the email address, check the number against the country, and take any other symbols out of names.
Someone who already has an account, with another firm say, isn't an error: Save links that account to your hub.
