Join a video call with your law firm

Join your case's video call in your browser, with no app to install, and check your camera and microphone first.

Your law firm can meet you by video on your case. The call runs in your browser, on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install.

  1. Open the call

Open your case and choose Convo in its menu. On a phone, tap the menu button at the top left first.

If your law firm emails you that someone is waiting for you in the call, choose Click here in the email instead. For an appointment held by video call, use the link in its invitation or in its details.

  2. Wait for the call

Once your law firm has started the call, the page shows Ready to join? and who's in the call. The page checks every few seconds, so a call that has just started can take about 20 seconds to show.

If the page shows Start Convo instead, choose it. You join your law firm's call if it's running, or start it for them to join.

Starting the call doesn't tell your law firm. Once you've joined, choose Share at the bottom of the call, pick who to tell under Select participants, and choose Notify. They're emailed that you're waiting, with a link to the call.

  3. Check your camera and microphone

Under Ready to join?, check your picture. The two round buttons turn your microphone and camera off before you join. If you have more than one camera or microphone, pick the one to use from the lists below your picture.

  4. Join now

Choose Join now. If your browser asks to use your camera and microphone, allow it.

In the call, Mute and Video turn your microphone and camera off and on. Each turns red while it's off. Settings changes the microphone or camera you use. Messages you write in the chat beside the call go to everyone in it, and aren't kept.

  5. Leave the call

Choose Leave Call at the top of the page, then Yes. The call goes on for everyone else. Closing the browser tab leaves it too.

What happens next

When the last person leaves, the call ends. If your law firm ends the call for everyone, your call closes. Calls aren't recorded.

If something goes wrong

  • "The call could not be joined. Please try again." Wait a moment, then choose Join now again.
  • Start Convo is greyed out. Your case is closed, so it has no more calls. Contact your law firm to arrange another way to meet.
  • Nobody can see or hear you. Let the page use your camera and microphone in your browser's settings, then pick them in Settings.
  • Nobody joins you. Your law firm may not know you're waiting. Choose Share, then Notify, as above, or contact them.
  • There's no Convo in your case's menu. Your law firm doesn't hold video calls in the portal. Ask them how they'd like to meet.

Your law firm may have changed what you can do in the portal. If an option described here is missing, ask your firm.
