Your law firm may give you a task, such as gathering your medical bills. You mark your progress on it in the portal, and can add comments and files for your law firm.
Open the task
Tap Click here in the email about it. Or open your case and, under To DoTo Do The list on a case of things waiting for you, such as forms to fill in, documents to sign or events to confirm., choose Open Task beside it (on a phone, View Task).
You can also open Tasks and, under Your Uncompleted Tasks, choose the task.
Read what's needed
The task opens with its description, any files your law firm added under Attachments, and when it's due. Some tasks have Child Tasks: smaller steps, each with its own status. Choose one to open it.
Update its status
Choose the task's status, which reads To Do at first, and pick In Progress while you work on it, or Done once it's finished. It saves at once. On a phone, the status is near the bottom of the task.
Add a comment or file
Under Activity, type in Add a comment... and choose Save. To address someone, type @ and pick their name. To add a file, save your comment first, then choose Attach under it.
What happens next
When you mark a task Done, whoever gave it to you is told, and it leaves your To Do. If others are assigned to it too, the first to mark it Done finishes it for everyone. Until then, you get reminders before it's due, by email or by text.
The people on the task are told about your comments. A repeating task, such as a weekly check-in, comes back as To Do each time it's due.
If something goes wrong
- You can't change the status. Only the people the task is assigned to can, and only while the case is open. Ask your law firm if you should be on it.
- "Finish or remove this task's open subtasks before marking it Done." The task has smaller tasks inside it that aren't finished yet. They show in red in the task. Finish the ones given to you, or ask your law firm about the rest.
Your law firm may have changed what you can do in the portal. If an option described here is missing, ask your firm.
