Start a video call with a client

Start or join a case's video call in the browser, invite people on the case, and share your screen.

Each case has its own video call, a ConvoConvo A video call held inside a case., held in the browser. Everyone on the case who joins while it's running is in the same call, and nobody needs to install anything. To book one ahead, schedule an event with CaseActive Convo as its location: see Schedule an event on a case.

  1. Open Convo

On the case, open Convo. If a call is already running, the page shows who's in it. It checks every few seconds, so a call that has just started can take up to about 20 seconds to show.

  2. Start or join

Choose Start Convo, or skip this if the call is already running.

Under Ready to join?, check your picture, and use the two round buttons to turn your microphone or camera off before you join. Pick another camera or microphone from the lists below it if you need to. Then choose Join now. If your browser asks to use your camera and microphone, allow it.

  3. Invite people

Choose Share. Under Select participants, pick the people on the case to tell, and choose Notify. Or copy the link below it to send yourself: it opens the case's call for people on the case once they sign in.

  4. Use the call controls

    • Mute and Video turn your microphone and camera off and on. Each turns red while it's off.
    • Blur blurs your background.
    • Present shares your screen with everyone in the call, from a computer. Choose it again to stop.
    • Fullscreen enlarges the call within the page.
    • Settings changes your Audio Device or Video Device.

The chat beside the call goes to everyone in it, and isn't saved.

  5. Leave or end it

Choose Leave Call at the top of the page, then Yes. The call carries on for everyone else.

To close it for everyone, choose End call for everyone beside it, then Yes. You see it if your role can end calls, as the built-in staff role can.

What happens next

Each person you notify is emailed, or texted if they have only a phone number, that you're waiting for them in the call, and you get a copy by email. Your client joins from Convo on their own case, on a computer or a phone, with nothing to install. See Join a video call with your law firm.

When the last person leaves, the call ends. Calls aren't recorded.

If something goes wrong

  • "The call could not be joined. Please try again." Try Join now again in a moment. A closed case has no calls.
  • Nobody can see or hear you. Check your browser lets the page use your camera and microphone, then pick them in Settings.
  • Start Convo is greyed out. The case is closed.

Your firm may have changed what each role can do on a case. If an option described here is missing, ask an Admin of your hub.
