Pay an invoice

Pay an invoice from your law firm by card in your portal, and download a copy of it.

In this article6 sections

Your law firm may send you an invoice on your case, such as a fee or a cost. If your law firm takes payments in the portal, you can pay it there by card.

  1. Open the invoice

Tap Click here in the email asking for payment, or the link in the text. Or open your case and, under To DoTo Do The list on a case of things waiting for you, such as forms to fill in, documents to sign or events to confirm., choose Open Task beside it (on a phone, View Invoice).

You can also open Invoices, and under Your Unpaid Invoices, choose Pay Invoice in the row's Action list.

  2. Check the invoice

The page shows the invoice, with each charge and the total. To keep a copy, choose Download to save it as a PDF.

  3. Add a card

The first time, enter your card's details in the form and choose Add Payment. The card is saved to your account for next time.

To use a different card later, choose Add a new payment method. The bin icon beside a card removes it.

  4. Pay it

Pick the card to pay with, check the amount beside Total charge:, and choose Pay now.

What happens next

The invoice is marked Paid, moves to Your Paid Invoices and leaves your To Do. You get a receipt by email, or by text if your law firm has only your phone number, and your law firm is told.

To see the invoice again, choose View Invoice in its Action list. It shows the date you paid, and its PDF is marked Paid.

If your law firm marks an invoice Processing, for example while a check you sent clears, you're no longer reminded about it, but it stays in Your Unpaid Invoices. Ask your law firm before paying it online.

If something goes wrong

  • There's no Pay Invoice option. Your law firm doesn't take payments in the portal, or your case is closed. Ask your law firm how to pay.
  • "The card was declined and the invoice has not been paid. Please check the card details or try another payment method." Check your card's details, or add another card and pay with that.
  • "Invoice should be equal or greater than a dollar." An invoice under $1.00 can't be paid online. Ask your law firm how to pay it.

Your law firm may have changed what you can do in the portal. If an option described here is missing, ask your firm.
